This a continuation of my summer jazz series that started with Victor Goines exploring flowing shapes inspired by smoky nightclubs and classic performances.
"Frank Sinatra Shrouded in Smoke"
This was an expressive view of a young Sinatra that I wanted to take on as a challenge with all that cigarette smoke flowing over and around his face.

A great face and that hair is always fun to render.
“Buddy Rich on Fire”
When I look think of Buddy Rich on fire at the drums
it reminds me of why I create art.
His joyful intensity on the drums is how I feel on a good day,
when an invisible voice seems to have whispered into my ear,
and said-go!, and the brush or the pen swings free,
without restraint, without limits.
I remember hearing and seeing him on the Johnny Carson Show.
His was a wild abandon of the soul, a divine madness of creation.
You can see it in his face, in the explosive expression
of the boy artist never grown up.
The joy was palpable and Johnny who fancied himself a drummer,
loved to have him on the show for just that reason.
He would always bring the house down.
